The formulas

How it works, step by step

=B2*B3*B4
Cubic feet from feet. Multiply length, width and height, all in feet: a 10 × 8 × 8 ft room holds 640 cubic feet.
=B10*B11*B12/1728
Cubic feet from inches. Multiply the three sides in inches to get cubic inches, then divide by 1,728, the number of cubic inches in a cubic foot (12 × 12 × 12). A 24 × 18 × 12 in box is 3 cubic feet.
=B5/27
Cubic yards and cubic meters. A cubic yard is 3 × 3 × 3 = 27 cubic feet, the unit concrete, soil and mulch are sold in. For cubic meters, multiply by 0.3048³ (a foot is 0.3048 m), about 0.0283.
=PI()*(B16/2)^2*B17
A cylinder. The area of the circle (π × radius²) times the height. The radius is half the diameter: a tank 2 ft across and 4 ft high holds about 12.57 cubic feet.
FAQ

Questions

How do you calculate cubic feet?

Measure length, width and height in feet and multiply them. A space 10 ft long, 8 ft wide and 8 ft high is 10 × 8 × 8 = 640 cubic feet.

How do I convert inches to cubic feet?

Multiply the three measurements in inches and divide by 1,728. A box of 24 × 18 × 12 inches is 5,184 cubic inches, which is 3 cubic feet.

How many cubic feet are in a cubic yard?

27, because a cubic yard is 3 feet on each side. Divide cubic feet by 27 to get cubic yards: 640 cubic feet is about 23.7 cubic yards.

How do I get cubic feet when the measurements are mixed?

Convert everything to the same unit first. 6 inches is 0.5 ft, so a slab 10 ft by 10 ft and 6 in thick is 10 × 10 × 0.5 = 50 cubic feet.

How do I calculate the volume of a round tank?

Use π × radius² × height with everything in feet. A tank 2 ft across (radius 1 ft) and 4 ft high is about 12.57 cubic feet.
